Some of you may be wondering – Why Summer Specials, why not Mini Session?
Well, if you know me, then you probably know that I don’t like offering mini sessions. They’re great in theory! I love the length of the session (half an hour vs. an hour), and for my clients, it’s the only time that I offer the sale of digital files independently without their printed version. But they’ve always caused me so much stress. From finding a location, to scheduling and working around the rain and the lighting. But the biggest issue – coming up with a set-up. Oh, the set-up, my nemesis.
My style of photography is very clean and simple and having a set-up for my mini sessions to emphasize a theme broke my heart. Every. Single. Time. I went into the sessions stressed to the max and it may be unprofessional to say this, but I think it showed in my work. (Except for my Halloween Mini Session, I truly do love those and they’re not going anywhere!)
I always felt the minis were lacking the personal touch of a full session. There wasn’t the usual pre-consultation before the session or in-person viewing session afterwards, and the sessions themselves were assembly line. Stand here. Do this. Smile. Next! And that is so not me and not the customer service I want to offer my clients.
So, then why did I do it? I always felt the pressure to offer mini sessions because, well, everyone else is doing it and my clients love it! A short little session at a good price point and the option to purchase digital files. All you could ever want, right?
Wrong! What about a 30 minute session that’s all about YOU. No more stress about what happens if your kids don’t co-operate, knowing you only have 30 minutes and there is someone scheduled right after you (and probably already waiting for you to finish). YOU choose the time and – wait for it – THE DAY that works best for YOU. YOU choose the location. YOU choose the package that’s best for you. YOU receive a pre-consulation beforehand to go over outfits and location options and an in person viewing session (or video call view session during covid) to help you narrow down the images that want. And while I still strongly believe in printing your photographs, I know that everyone still wants digital files so I’m offering digital files in the packages.
I hope you’re as excited about these changes as I am! So, without further ado, here they are!

This was so not my usual session. I haven’t seen Hunter in far too long (I was way overdue for a visit before all of this Covid stuff happened – worst Aunt award right here). Sometimes photographing kids that are close to you is much more difficult than photographing kids you’ve just met. When I met Hunter and his Mom at the beach he was super excited to see me, but I could tell he was a little off. And if there is one thing I’ve learnt about children, it’s that sometimes you need to let go of your expectations and just go with the flow! I still got some great photographs (much to the surprise of his mom!) and I had a lot of fun hanging out with my nephew!
About 3 minutes into the session he soaked his shorts and THAT’S when I let go of expectations and let him be free!
First rule you learn as a photographer – NEVER EVER have your subject look directly into the sun. BUT HOW CUTE IS THIS PHOTOGRAPH! I had to share even though it’s technically all wrong.
He came up with every excuse not to leave the beach. “I don’t want to get hit by a car.” “I’m going to get a tick.” This kid is so smart! Very happy he gave in though, I love these portraits!
Who doesn’t love magic?!
If your kids are barefoot at the session, you can almost guarantee you’ll get one of these in your gallery!
Sorry for over sharing. I’m so excited to be back behind the camera! If you made it to the end of this post – THANK YOU!
Happy Halloween from Liz Czinege Photography! I hope everyone got enough candy to weigh them down in that storm that ripped through on Thursday!
This year I decided to do something a little different with the costume contest. Instead of the public voting for their favourite costume, I compiled a panel of 4 judges ranging in age and gender. Each judge was asked to select their first, second and third choices. The first choice had a 3 point value, second had a 2 point value and third had a 1 point value.
And, the winner was …..
Cruz as Trump
I am SO happy that I didn’t have to choose the winner of the contest, because there is no way I could have decided! Here are the rest of the adorable kiddos in their costumes, in no particular order!
I always have fun photographing this girls. And not JUST because I’m their honorary Auntie. I love capturing how caring Alexis is towards her little sister. And Everly never fails to keep things interesting!
I can’t believe how much Alexis has grown. Slow down little girl!
Love me some denim in black and white!
I got the biggest chuckle from Alexis, no matter how much Everly was freaking out beside her, she continued to look at the camera and smile.
A beautiful couple, the beach, at sunset – the stars aligned! A lot of planning went into this session. From outfit co-ordination to making sure we got the timing right for the sunset and just hoping for a sunny day and a great sunset!
Kylie mentioned during the pre-consultation that she doesn’t like being in front of the camera (she’s a natural though, you’d never know!) and Jon on the other hand was soaking it all up. It’s great when the guy enjoys the session, makes for some great natural shots and creative poses.
While I was waiting for Kylie and Jon to arrive at the location I noticed this perfect little spot. I was hoping that they would be troopers and trek in through the weeds and grass and who knows what, and they were! SO WORTH IT.
Kylie and I know each other from when we were in Girl Guides together, and I remember now why she had the nickname Giggles. We had so many laughs during this session. Mostly laughing through poses that felt awkward but look great. I think they trust me now that they’ve seen their portraits! Am I right Kylie? That is one of the many reasons I love photographing couples before their wedding. It’s a great way to break the ice and build up a trust before the big day!
Bugs, annoying little things, but they sure do look magical when they’re backlit!
Gahhh! These two are the cutest. I can’t even.
Jon requested a photograph of their matching tattoos, how could I say no?? I love them!
Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect sunset – or location. OR COUPLE!
I truly can not wait to photograph their wedding in September.
I love this family. The only time I ever get nervous before a session is when I am photographing friends for the first time. I always feel so much pressure to get the right shots, the perfect shots. But these guys nailed it!
When you love your brother so much you just have to put him in a choke hold. That portrait makes me laugh, 100% accurate to their relationship. Parents always get stressed out when children don’t behave how we want for the session, but I always get some good ones! When I photograph my niece and nephews, the candid shots are my favourite. So natural and so them, as they grow – those are the photographs that I love the most because it reminds me of how they truly were at that age.
I love this photograph, reminds me of an album cover.
Ruby, the sweetest daddy’s girl! She is the BIGGEST suck and is so patient with the boys.
Isabella turned four last month. It’s been a pleasure watching her grow and turn into this beautiful little lady. I look forward to her birthday sessions every year!
That smirk though, perfection.
Cole is ONE! Wow. What a year it has been. It seems like yesterday that I was photographing Cole’s newborn portraits – and here we are at his cake smash birthday session!
Doesn’t he have the best blue eyes?! Gorgeous!
After the cake smash we called in the clean up crew. Maple is the best big sister ever!
Sigh, when did my little niece become and adult! Talk about 9 going on 19. One of the benefits of buying all of her clothes is that I get to dress her however I want – which is usually exactly like me. I wish this outfit came in my size. (Who am I kidding. I also have that vest, thanks Old Navy!) I drive by this field so often and was struck by how beautiful the purple flowers were so I couldn’t help myself!
She gets it from me. #sorrynotsorry
I love this carefree laugh.
Geesh!! STOP GROWING UP! At every stage I think it’s the best age ever and then the next stage happens and THAT is the best age ever. Smart, kind, sassy and such an old soul. I just love this kid so much!
