The Kriter’s | Niagara Family Photographer

When Tanya contacted me about family portraits, she said her youngest was very shy and probably wouldn’t co-operate. I assured her that it would be okay, I have a few tricks up my sleeve and for some reason kids are drawn to me. BUT I got to the session and I didn’t have to use any of my tricks!! Tanya had shown Logan photos of me leading up to the day and as soon as I got there she was all smiles!

Doing close up portraits of the kids while posed with Mom and Dad is my new favourite!  So much love these girls have for each other!  Oh Logan, I can’t believe your Mom was worried about you being shy for the session. SO MANY FACIAL EXPRESSIONS this girl has and all of them amazing!  I hear Callie quietly tell her mom that her cheeks hurt. So I let them in on a little secret – sometimes your face just needs a little squish to help those cheeks relax! Gotta have a little bit of fun during the session!

Summer Specials vs Mini Sessions

Some of you may be wondering – Why Summer Specials, why not Mini Session?

Well, if you know me, then you probably know that I don’t like offering mini sessions. They’re great in theory! I love the length of the session (half an hour vs. an hour), and for my clients, it’s the only time that I offer the sale of digital files independently without their printed version. But they’ve always caused me so much stress. From finding a location, to scheduling and working around the rain and the lighting. But the biggest issue – coming up with a set-up. Oh, the set-up, my nemesis.

My style of photography is very clean and simple and having a set-up for my mini sessions to emphasize a theme broke my heart. Every. Single. Time. I went into the sessions stressed to the max and it may be unprofessional  to say this, but I think it showed in my work. (Except for my Halloween Mini Session, I truly do love those and they’re not going anywhere!)

I always felt the minis were lacking the personal touch of a full session. There wasn’t the usual pre-consultation before the session or in-person viewing session afterwards, and the sessions themselves were assembly line. Stand here. Do this. Smile. Next! And that is so not me and not the customer service I want to offer my clients.

So, then why did I do it? I always felt the pressure to offer mini sessions because, well, everyone else is doing it and my clients love it! A short little session at a good price point and the option to purchase digital files. All you could ever want, right?

Wrong! What about a 30 minute session that’s all about YOU. No more stress about what happens if your kids don’t co-operate, knowing you only have 30 minutes and there is someone scheduled right after you (and probably already waiting for you to finish).  YOU choose the time and – wait for it – THE DAY that works best for YOU. YOU choose the location. YOU choose the package that’s best for you. YOU receive a pre-consulation beforehand to go over outfits and location options and an in person viewing session (or video call view session during covid) to help you narrow down the images that want. And while I still strongly believe in printing your photographs, I know that everyone still wants digital files so I’m offering digital files in the packages.

I hope you’re as excited about these changes as I am! So, without further ado, here they are!

Nathan | Niagara Child Photographer

I’m a little delayed on this blog post, but Nathan’s session was my first time behind the camera Post-Covid! He’s part of my First Year Baby Plan and due to this crazy world, we were a little late on his 9 month session, but better late than never! I’m so thankful we finally got it do it.

This little stinker was trying VERY hard not to smile and was making all the funny faces. I walked away from this session thinking that I hadn’t gotten one real smile and it had me super stressed, even though I know Mama is so laid back.  Typically during a session even if a child is a little cranky I still walk away from the session knowing I got a few good smiles, which is always a surprise to Mom and Dad when they view the gallery! But with Nathan’s session I dreaded even importing them onto my computer. I was so surprised when I saw the image below, so perfect!!

Sometimes you just have to let go of the expectations to have that “perfect” shot and have some fun!  I love posed family portraits, but I also adore these family portraits. I like to think of them as gently posed!

Slipak’s | Niagara Family Photographer

I thought we could use a little bit of fall with this dreary weather we’ve been having! I photographed this beautiful family a couple weeks ago at the Quarry. We’re so lucky to have such a beautiful spot close to home.  This little miss stole the show!  C’mon! How adorable is that face?!

The Korten’s | Niagara Family Photographer

This family is the cutest! Coming into the session, Mama was concerned that Jensen wouldn’t co-operate. But I think we got some great portraits!  Demi is so bright-eyed!  A little Mama and Demi one on one time while her big brother was running around hog-wild.  I seriously love this natural shot, I think it sums up this family pretty well!

The Cole’s | Niagara Family Photographer

The Cole’s first portraits as a family of FIVE! I’m a little late on all of these Spring sessions, but they are definitely worth the share. I love natural portraits! Boys will be boys, right?

Savannah | Niagara Newborn Photographer

Savannah is the sweetest little thing. I couldn’t believe it when she slept through her entire session and barely even stirred!  Savannah’s was enjoying her session obviously, look at that smile!  Mom got this awesome headband to use for the session. I love the pop of colour against the pink blanket!  That pout though, so perfect!Little piggies.  Such a proud big brother. It was adorable seeing how big his smile was when he was holding his little sister.

Jonathan | Niagara Newborn Photographer

A couple years ago I photographed Jonathan’s older brother Anthony. I was so thrilled when his mama reached out to me again for baby #2! When photographing a sibling I always try to keep it similar so they go great together hanging on a wall, but also make them unique so the portraits are their own!  Jonathan looks so much like Anthony in this photograph!  And baby makes four!

Thin’s | Niagara Family Photographer

I love this family. The only time I ever get nervous before a session is when I am photographing friends for the first time. I always feel so much pressure to get the right shots, the perfect shots. But these guys nailed it!  When you love your brother so much you just have to put him in a choke hold. That portrait makes me laugh, 100% accurate to their relationship. Parents always get stressed out when children don’t behave how we want for the session, but I always get some good ones! When I photograph my niece and nephews, the candid shots are my favourite. So natural and so them, as they grow – those are the photographs that I love the most because it reminds me of how they truly were at that age.  I love this photograph, reminds me of an album cover.  Ruby, the sweetest daddy’s girl! She is the BIGGEST suck and is so patient with the boys.

Emma | Niagara Newborn Photographer

I’m a little behind on my blogging, due to the fact that I was working my butt off trying to get everyone their portraits before going to Punta Cana for my friends wedding! But now I’m back and rested and ready to blog!

Emma. Oh Emma. You are just perfect.  After multiple newborns who put up quite the fight, I was beginning to think that I’d lost my touch – it was time to retire my “Baby Whisperer” shirt – literally! But Emma slept through her entire session, stayed in every pose I put her in and didn’t fuss. She was exactly what I needed to get me out of my funk!
Emma has the softest, shiniest hair I have ever seen on a newborn. So gorgeous, I can’t get over it!  These portraits are completely different than my usual style, but I am in love with them. She looks so comfy in the bucket!
