Summer Specials vs Mini Sessions

Some of you may be wondering – Why Summer Specials, why not Mini Session?

Well, if you know me, then you probably know that I don’t like offering mini sessions. They’re great in theory! I love the length of the session (half an hour vs. an hour), and for my clients, it’s the only time that I offer the sale of digital files independently without their printed version. But they’ve always caused me so much stress. From finding a location, to scheduling and working around the rain and the lighting. But the biggest issue – coming up with a set-up. Oh, the set-up, my nemesis.

My style of photography is very clean and simple and having a set-up for my mini sessions to emphasize a theme broke my heart. Every. Single. Time. I went into the sessions stressed to the max and it may be unprofessional  to say this, but I think it showed in my work. (Except for my Halloween Mini Session, I truly do love those and they’re not going anywhere!)

I always felt the minis were lacking the personal touch of a full session. There wasn’t the usual pre-consultation before the session or in-person viewing session afterwards, and the sessions themselves were assembly line. Stand here. Do this. Smile. Next! And that is so not me and not the customer service I want to offer my clients.

So, then why did I do it? I always felt the pressure to offer mini sessions because, well, everyone else is doing it and my clients love it! A short little session at a good price point and the option to purchase digital files. All you could ever want, right?

Wrong! What about a 30 minute session that’s all about YOU. No more stress about what happens if your kids don’t co-operate, knowing you only have 30 minutes and there is someone scheduled right after you (and probably already waiting for you to finish).  YOU choose the time and – wait for it – THE DAY that works best for YOU. YOU choose the location. YOU choose the package that’s best for you. YOU receive a pre-consulation beforehand to go over outfits and location options and an in person viewing session (or video call view session during covid) to help you narrow down the images that want. And while I still strongly believe in printing your photographs, I know that everyone still wants digital files so I’m offering digital files in the packages.

I hope you’re as excited about these changes as I am! So, without further ado, here they are!

Kylie & Jon | Niagara Wedding Photographer

I’m so excited to share the images from Kylie and Jon’s wedding day! It was so hard to narrow down my favourites, but here they are!  We left a very sunny Port Colborne and drove into a massive storm in Pelham. There was SO. MUCH. RAIN! But Kylie and Jon didn’t let it get them down. They were troopers, they insisted on still capturing their portraits outside. By the time we came back inside Kylie was leaving a trail of water behind her because her dress was so drenched! But they had smiles on the whole day, and of course, we had a ton of laughs! Thank you so much for choosing me to be a part of your day. It means the world to me!

The Korten’s | Niagara Family Photographer

This family is the cutest! Coming into the session, Mama was concerned that Jensen wouldn’t co-operate. But I think we got some great portraits!  Demi is so bright-eyed!  A little Mama and Demi one on one time while her big brother was running around hog-wild.  I seriously love this natural shot, I think it sums up this family pretty well!

Kylie&Jon | Niagara Engagement Photographer

A beautiful couple, the beach, at sunset – the stars aligned! A lot of planning went into this session. From outfit co-ordination to making sure we got the timing right for the sunset and just hoping for a sunny day and a great sunset!

Kylie mentioned during the pre-consultation that she doesn’t like being in front of the camera (she’s a natural though, you’d never know!) and Jon on the other hand was soaking it all up. It’s great when the guy enjoys the session, makes for some great natural shots and creative poses.

While I was waiting for Kylie and Jon to arrive at the location I noticed this perfect little spot. I was hoping that they would be troopers and trek in through the weeds and grass and who knows what, and they were! SO WORTH IT.

Kylie and I know each other from when we were in Girl Guides together, and I remember now why she had the nickname Giggles. We had so many laughs during this session. Mostly laughing through poses that felt awkward but look great. I think they trust me now that they’ve seen their portraits! Am I right Kylie? That is one of the many reasons I love photographing couples before their wedding. It’s a great way to break the ice and build up a trust before the big day! Bugs, annoying little things, but they sure do look magical when they’re backlit!  Gahhh! These two are the cutest. I can’t even.  Jon requested a photograph of their matching tattoos, how could I say no?? I love them! Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect sunset – or location. OR COUPLE!  I truly can not wait to photograph their wedding in September.

Monica | Niagara Maternity Photographer

I wish I could share every image from this session with Monica and Holden! So I’m sorry for the over sharing in this post – but I just couldn’t narrow it down any further! Monica is 35 weeks along and she has the cutest bump ever! I love how much these two enjoyed their session.  I stumbled across this location while going for a quick walk around the block from my apartment. I instantly knew that I had to shoot here – so many different looks in one location! This Mama ROCKED it!
Monica loves bridges, we had to stop for this one!  The sun was definitely on our side, absolutely perfect!

Sheena | Niagara Maternity Photographer

Sheena was gifted Maternity and Newborn portraits, she is one luck lady! She was a little nervous about her portraits, but she totally rocked her session. After some TLC from Hair by Ash and Lashed by Courtney we were on our way to Botanical Gardens.

Sheena and Myles were so adorable together, I love when Dads get involved with the session! These two (and a half) plus that setting sun, perfection!

Gosh! How adorable are these two, seriously!!

I can’t wait to meet their little girl in a few short weeks!

Aleks | Niagara Maternity Photographer

liz czinege niagara grimsby maternity photographer01Aleks and Brian are letting me join them during the first year of their baby’s life! I will be capturing maternity, newborn, 3 months, 9 months and one year portraits of their little guy. I can’t wait! For their maternity session they were up for anything. We took a drive along my favourite road stopping occasionally to take some portraits and get eaten by mosquitoes. And then we headed to the beach. liz czinege niagara grimsby maternity photographer02liz czinege niagara grimsby maternity photographer03When I said they were up for anything, I mean anything! I was so excited when Aleks agreed to go in the water. I’ve never had a Mama brave enough to hop in but I think all three of us are glad she did! The images of Aleks are stunning. (*Air Five* to Brian for hopping in the water too and helping out!)liz czinege niagara grimsby maternity photographer04liz czinege niagara grimsby maternity photographer05It is hard to choose my favourite image from this session but this one is definitely up there! liz czinege niagara grimsby maternity photographer06

Amanda&Joel | Niagara Engagement Photographer

I met Amanda and Joel for the first time at their engagement session (since they live out of town) and I have never laughed so much during a session. It’s clear to see that these two are made for each other!  When we arrived at Botanical Gardens it was down pouring. Luckily it stopped and we were able to dodge the rain – during the session at least.. Thanks again for saving me when my car wouldn’t start..in the rain..with full bladders. If it was any other client I had just met, I would never have sent the “Do you have booster cables?” text. But I feel like you two are long lost friends and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding!

The Richard’s | Niagara Family Photographer

Family farm, barn, field, storm clouds, boots and HORSES – this session was a dream!

I’ve known the Richard’s since high school when Shelby and I became friends. This is th second time I’ve photographed them – a gift for Dad! – and it’s always a pleasure. I mean c’mon, look how gorgeous this family is!  We just beat the rain by a couple of minutes, it made for the perfect sky and lighting. Everyone wants a beautiful clear blue sky on photo day, but in reality an overcast day is the best kind of day. No squinting, no shadows, perfect!  When Dad mentioned including the Draft Horses I was all for it! Aren’t they beautiful?!??

Rob&Melissa | Niagara Wedding Photographer

These high school sweethearts are getting married! Rob & Melissa started the session a little uncomfortable in front of the camera, but it made for some super adorable candid shots. It didn’t take them long to become pros – that’s one of the main reasons I include a complimentary engagement session with every wedding package. It gives us a chance to get to know each other before the big day and for the Bride & Groom to get comfortable in front of the camera.  These two are way too sweet.
These two rocked their session!  I can’t wait to celebrate your love in September!
