Nathan | Niagara Child Photographer

This post never made it out of my drafts. And since I’m catching up on all my blog posts, I thought I would share this one as well!
Brothers, always there to bonk ya on the head with a balloon. It’s safe to say Nathan hated his cake, as delicious as it looked! Maple was more than happy to step up and help her brother.

Monica | Niagara Maternity Photographer

I met Monica and Holden when I put out a model call for a maternity session. I fell in love with them immediately. (But it definitely helped when they offered me a caesar after Naomi’s newborn session. Uhmmm, yes please!)

I was a little bummed about doing their maternity session in the winter. So cold and so much white. But this spot was perfect and it was snowing the perfect amount! Monica was a trooper in that dress, don’t let her fool you – IT WAS COLD! I can’t believe she made it through the entire session. The snow though, honestly perfect.  Is Monica a babe, or is she a babe. This dress was perfect for the session!  Summer bump and Winter Bump. I love how completely opposite Monica’s two maternity session are! (Check out her summer session, they’re too gorgeous not to share again!)

Kylie | Niagara Maternity Photographer

This is my third time photographing Kylie, and there’s one thing I know for certain. Kylie does not like having her photo taken, but you’d never know!! Sometimes big sisters steal the show. Fallyn was loving every second of it, she definitely takes after her dad! When I arrive at a clients home, I usually do a quick look around to see where the best lighting is. When I saw their bedroom I knew I had to use it for at least a few portraits. Different from my usual style, but so pretty!

9th Annual Costume Contest

I’m a little late on this years costume contest (2020 rules apply right?), but none-the-less, I couldn’t miss posting this years winner!

This year I had 10 judges pick their favourite costume – and the winner is…….

Olivia, the sweetest little Deer I ever did see!
Once again, SO HAPPY I didn’t have to choose the winner, because it would have been an impossible choice for me! All the kiddos were so adorable!

The Kriter’s | Niagara Family Photographer

When Tanya contacted me about family portraits, she said her youngest was very shy and probably wouldn’t co-operate. I assured her that it would be okay, I have a few tricks up my sleeve and for some reason kids are drawn to me. BUT I got to the session and I didn’t have to use any of my tricks!! Tanya had shown Logan photos of me leading up to the day and as soon as I got there she was all smiles!

Doing close up portraits of the kids while posed with Mom and Dad is my new favourite!  So much love these girls have for each other!  Oh Logan, I can’t believe your Mom was worried about you being shy for the session. SO MANY FACIAL EXPRESSIONS this girl has and all of them amazing!  I hear Callie quietly tell her mom that her cheeks hurt. So I let them in on a little secret – sometimes your face just needs a little squish to help those cheeks relax! Gotta have a little bit of fun during the session!

Baby Prodger | Niagara Maternity Photographer

I’m so happy I was able to be part of John & Tess’ pregnancy announcement! I’m so happy for you guys, I can’t wait to snuggle the new little one!

All the colours were peeeeeerfectly on point!
It’s a ….

Naomi | Niagara Child Photographer

This little cutie turned two this week. And when I went to look for the blog post to share, I realized that I never posted one – WHICH IS CRAZY! – because I loved every single one of the images from this session. So, I decided it’s never too late to share my favourite images from Naomi’s first birthday.

Mama had some amazing ideas for Naomi’s session. Together, we put our heads together and made it a reality!  When mom and dad are this gorgeous, it’s no wonder Naomi is so beautiful! I loved this simple cake setup. Just enough of everything to not take away from the girl of the hour! I usually find that extravagant set-ups end up taking the attention away from the child that’s in the portrait.  These two are way too much fun! I’ve photographed their maternity portraits, Naomi’s newborn portraits and Naomi’s first birthday and Monica and Holden never disappoint! I’m also pretty sure that I’ve been handed a bevy every time I’ve walked into their home. #BonusPoints After getting messy with the cake, a little clean up was required. (Mostly for mom and dad, since Naomi was probably the cleanest baby post-cake smash that I have ever seen.)

Colton | Niagara Child Photographer

Colton is such a happy little guy! It’s been a while since I put a baby in a bucket, but his plaid and this rustic bucket – perfection! All the white makes Colton’s eyes pop doesn’t it?! Serious, neutral baby faces are the best. Don’t get me wrong, smiles are great, but there is something about that stare that just gets ya!
Rolls.For.Days. Colton’s going to hold his own against his older brothers when he gets older!

Summer Specials vs Mini Sessions

Some of you may be wondering – Why Summer Specials, why not Mini Session?

Well, if you know me, then you probably know that I don’t like offering mini sessions. They’re great in theory! I love the length of the session (half an hour vs. an hour), and for my clients, it’s the only time that I offer the sale of digital files independently without their printed version. But they’ve always caused me so much stress. From finding a location, to scheduling and working around the rain and the lighting. But the biggest issue – coming up with a set-up. Oh, the set-up, my nemesis.

My style of photography is very clean and simple and having a set-up for my mini sessions to emphasize a theme broke my heart. Every. Single. Time. I went into the sessions stressed to the max and it may be unprofessional  to say this, but I think it showed in my work. (Except for my Halloween Mini Session, I truly do love those and they’re not going anywhere!)

I always felt the minis were lacking the personal touch of a full session. There wasn’t the usual pre-consultation before the session or in-person viewing session afterwards, and the sessions themselves were assembly line. Stand here. Do this. Smile. Next! And that is so not me and not the customer service I want to offer my clients.

So, then why did I do it? I always felt the pressure to offer mini sessions because, well, everyone else is doing it and my clients love it! A short little session at a good price point and the option to purchase digital files. All you could ever want, right?

Wrong! What about a 30 minute session that’s all about YOU. No more stress about what happens if your kids don’t co-operate, knowing you only have 30 minutes and there is someone scheduled right after you (and probably already waiting for you to finish).  YOU choose the time and – wait for it – THE DAY that works best for YOU. YOU choose the location. YOU choose the package that’s best for you. YOU receive a pre-consulation beforehand to go over outfits and location options and an in person viewing session (or video call view session during covid) to help you narrow down the images that want. And while I still strongly believe in printing your photographs, I know that everyone still wants digital files so I’m offering digital files in the packages.

I hope you’re as excited about these changes as I am! So, without further ado, here they are!

Nathan | Niagara Child Photographer

I’m a little delayed on this blog post, but Nathan’s session was my first time behind the camera Post-Covid! He’s part of my First Year Baby Plan and due to this crazy world, we were a little late on his 9 month session, but better late than never! I’m so thankful we finally got it do it.

This little stinker was trying VERY hard not to smile and was making all the funny faces. I walked away from this session thinking that I hadn’t gotten one real smile and it had me super stressed, even though I know Mama is so laid back.  Typically during a session even if a child is a little cranky I still walk away from the session knowing I got a few good smiles, which is always a surprise to Mom and Dad when they view the gallery! But with Nathan’s session I dreaded even importing them onto my computer. I was so surprised when I saw the image below, so perfect!!

Sometimes you just have to let go of the expectations to have that “perfect” shot and have some fun!  I love posed family portraits, but I also adore these family portraits. I like to think of them as gently posed!
