There are two things I love about newborns who have gas; the smiles and all the baby cuddles! And I sure got a lot of both from this little girl.
I am pretty stubborn, so when little M here wouldn’t sleep we pushed on, determined to capture those sleepy newborn portraits. Her parents and I tried everything, but after a few hours we realized that her upset tummy was going to win this time. We scheduled her portraits for another day and when I arrived she was a completely different baby. It may have taken two tries, but I got beautiful portraits for her parents.
As a newborn photographer there are two things I know about babies; you can’t rush them and at less than 10 days old – they love to sleep! So if the baby still isn’t asleep after a few hours, there is something wrong and it’s time to call it a day. I try to book newborn sessions for the 5th day after birth incase a situation like this arises, there will still be plenty of time to reschedule and capture those adorable sleepy portraits!
I loved all the cuddles I got from this little one and I thank her parents for trusting me to handle their new baby and allowing me to be completely in my element – something difficult for new parents to do. Handing over your baby to a stranger is terrifying, which is why I encourage all of you to get to know your photographer before the session. A Maternity session or the pre-consultation included with the session is a great way to do this!
Congratulations again to her parents, I wish this little one all the happiness in the world.
